And a one two punch and he’s down… No! Old Man winter is getting back up….

20 Mar

We had a quick tease of something better, then it was just stripped away.

It was nice around here. Two weeks ago. It was 8 degrees Celcius and there were a few patches of water in the rivers starting to open up. I grabbed a rod and went searching the 50 foot tracts of open water, hoping for a take. Nothing.

Not that it wasn’t rewarding, I had to make a few Spiderman-like moves while heading to the river. And the shore was still covered in ice and snow a foot thick. It was exciting. The water, the suspense, and the uncertainty of it all.

Then it snapped down cold again and on top of that we just received a fresh 15 cm over the past two days. Springtime in Ottawa is always unpredictable. Last year on St Patrick’s Day there were open patios and sunbathers on the lawns. This year we still have a foot and a half of snow.

Oh well, at least the watersheds will be replenished after last year’s drought. And I suppose I can wait a few more weeks…

Oh and tonight I am attending an IF4 here in Ottawa. That probably won’t help control my urge to fish. I’ll be casting to puddles by the weekend.
